Includes: The Texas Cancer Registry (TCR) is a statewide, population-based registry that serves as the foundation for measuring the cancer burden in Texas, comprehensive cancer control efforts, health disparities, progress in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship, and also supports a wide variety of cancer-related research. These priorities cannot be adequately addressed in public health, academic institutions, or the private sector without timely, complete, and accurate cancer data.

Includes: Each year in Texas, over 1,800 children and adolescents younger than 20 years of age are diagnosed with cancer. Approximately 200 children and adolescents die of cancer each year, making cancer the most common cause of disease-related mortality for Texans 0-19 years of age. The tables presented on this page were created to provide detailed information on the incidence of childhood and adolescent cancer in Texas for scientists, policy makers, and the public. These population-based data are important in helping us better understand these cancers, their causes, and ultimately reducing cancer incidence and mortality.

Includes: State Cancer Profiles is an interactive map engine produced in collaboration between the National Cancer Institute and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It was developed with the idea to provide a geographic profile of cancer burden in the United States and reveal geographic disparities in cancer incidence, mortality, risk factors for cancer, and cancer screening, across different population subgroups. The target audiences are health planners, policy makers, and cancer information providers who need quick and easy access to cancer related data and maps to inform and prioritize investments in cancer control.

Includes: The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is the nation’s premier system of health-related telephone surveys that collect state data about U.S. residents regarding their health-related risk behaviors, chronic health conditions, and use of preventive services. Established in 1984 with 15 states, BRFSS now collects data in all 50 states as well as the District of Columbia and three U.S. territories. BRFSS completes more than 400,000 adult interviews each year, making it the largest continuously conducted health survey system in the world.
