During the current COVID-19 pandemic, the UTHealth School of Public Health Library & Graduate Communication Center (LGCC) remains strongly committed to providing resources and delivering services to the UTHealth SPH community while adhering to safety guidelines and policies. At this time, the library is open only to UTHealth SPH students, staff, and faculty, but it is limiting the maximum number of people allowed in its space. Per UTHealth policy and CDC guidelines, masks are required to enter the library. Also, SPH students must be able to show their completed COVID-19 Health Clearance form upon entry to the RAS Building. Keep in mind that many, if not all, LGCC resources and services can be accessed remotely across our various online guides and teleconferencing software. Let's work together to ensure that we all stay safe and healthy as we begin the Fall 2020 semester!

Reserve a Space or Study Room

The SPH Library supports teaching and learning by providing multi-use spaces designed for individual studying or group collaborations. While the SPH Library & Graduate Communication Center is open to all members of the SPH community, users must adhere to UTHealth policies when entering the RAS Building, using equipment and materials, and reserving study spaces. Spaces where marked are for SPH students only. All users must use their UT institutional credentials when logging into PCs or registering for services. Off-Campus or Remote Users

Accessing SPH Library resources while off-campus is almost identical to accessing them while on-campus, as long as you start from the SPH Library's home page. When you are off-campus, the first time you try to access a resource, you will be prompted to log in with your UTHealth email username and password. If a resource is not available online:

  • The library can make copies or scans of resources we own.
  • In the event that we do not own a resource, the library can obtain copies of requested resource by borrowing from libraries throughout the U.S. There is no charge for this service.
  • Library Material/Article Request is the request system for borrowing resources from other libraries or asking for scanned copies of resources we own.

This service is offered to SPH users only. All users must user their UTH-Share account to access the Library Material/Article Request form. 

Authentication for access to Library Electronic Resources

For UTHealth SPH Library resources: You will see the Shibboleth authentication login box. Use your University credentials (i.e. your Canvas username/password) to login.

For TMC Library resources: In order to access most of the TMC Library's electronic resources, you will need to sign-in us OpenAthens. It's a user authentication and e-resources access system that acts as your gateway to electronic resources licensed by the TMC Library. Your to access full text is validated on the resource side by using your institutional login. For instructions:        . 

The steps to sign in to OpenAthens are:

  • Select a resource available through the TMC Library.
  • With most databases, you will be prompted to select an institution. If you are not sure, view the Registration page of this guide.
  • If you see screen a with "Sign in with your OpenAthens account" on the left & "Find Your Organization" on the right, search for "Texas Medical Center Library" under Find Your Organization. You will then be prompted to select your institution.
  • Enter your institutional credentials to gain access to the resource.

Tip: Clear all your browser history and use two different browsers for each library,otherwise you may not be able to access SPH Library resources  especially SPH owned ebooks  via the  TMC Library institutional login.
