SPH Writing Support Services: Getting Started: Thesis/Dissertation Writing Group

Getting started with SPH Writing Support Services

Meeting to Write, Writing to Meet (My Graduation Deadline!)

The purpose of the SPH Thesis/Dissertation Writing Group is to offer SPH students protected writing time, peer support (not peer review), accountability, structure, and writing support from WSS staff. The overall goal of this writing group is to create a shared sense of community in order to motivate SPH students to work towards completing their master’s theses/doctoral dissertations in a timely fashion. To accomplish this overall goal, S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound) goals are set and assessed at each meeting.

Participation is FREE and open to all SPH students working on any stage of their thesis or dissertation. SPH students at regional campuses are required to secure a quiet writing space and join the writing group meetings through WebEx. Because of space and time constraints, participation in each writing group is done on a first-come, first-served basis, and is limited to six (6) participants.

Each writing group lasts one (1) month. Members with good participation records will automatically be included in the following month’s writing group until they either finish their thesis/dissertation or notify WSS staff that they no longer want to participate in the writing group.

For additional information about this writing group, please e-mail WSS at SPHWritingHub@uth.tmc.edu or Dr. Zhiling "Willa" Wu at Zhiling.Wu@uth.tmc.edu.
